-Characters Into Actors
For this weeks blog, I have decided to take a much more different approach compared to previous blogs. I truly wanted to go a bit beyond my comfort zone, writing wise. Today, I am going to be taking the quote describing a character and choose an actress/actor who would, in my opinion, fit their description.
Grace, a main character, is described to have "dark blonde hair "and is commonly "in a long ponytail." Not much is found about Grace's physical traits, meaning the characters' looks are up to interpretation. Despite this, we do receive several traits such as her strong care and compassion for helping others. Along with this she is also described to be intellectual and a lover of reading. In several ways, she reminded me of the role Ashley Tisdale had on the show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Both characters have a special presence that in several ways is a small glimmer of hope when those around them are upset.
Another very special character throughout the story would be Sam. Sam is described by Stiefvater to looks if he had, "that sort of mop-top black hair and interestingly shaped nose that a girl could never get away with." Stiefvater also constantly states, "Even now, without his familiar eyes open, a little part of me kept jumping with an irrational glee," when speaking in the view of Grace. Meaning that when ever Grace saw Sam she felt happy, something that also happens to her family and friends when they met Sam. Sam, in several ways, is the one boy that all those around seem to fawn over, whether it be parents, friends, or yourself. Maggie Stiefvater, throughout the rest of the story also makes a large point on repeatedly mentioning Sam's eyes. Stiefvater every few chapters has a characters ask Sam, "Do you wear contacts?" Due to the reiteration of both the color of Sam's hair and eyes, I felt that if an actor were to assume the role of Sam, it would be Logan Lerman due to his "oh-so irresistible charm" and rather brilliant blue eyes.
My least favorite, yet still important, character would be Shelby. Shelby is a wolf who can not reassume her form as a human (unlike Sam, who has been able to change between both forms.) My distaste for her would be the fact that she has always preferred the savage ways of being a wolf, rather than living with morals and a sense of humanity. Not much can be found in the book about Shelby's physical traits but we do find her to be described as malicious and fierce. Due to this reason I felt that a black wolf would present Shelby. In a way, I feel that the color of her fur would symbolize the type of person she is. A recurring idea throughout the story is that the longer a person stays in their wolf form, the more humanity they lose. It is my idea that like in the dark or blackness of the night, (the night in this case being Shelby's instinctual and animalistic mind) it is easy to get lost, which is what has happened to Shelby. Shelby has lost almost every possible attribute that has made her human, she is now purely driven by animal instinct.
Good Job! It was cool to see what you thought. :)
