Prompt: Evaluate whether the main character would be worthy of your friendship
After reading I wonder...
The most important character of the second book to the Grisha trilogy would be Alina Starkov. During the second half of the story we realize how strongly she has been influenced by the two amplifiers* she has. The power of the two amplifiers has left Alina
With the previously mentioned summary of what has happened to Alina in the story, when confronting the question whether or not she would be worthy of my friendship I find myself conflicted. In her current state Alina struggles to put the needs of others in front of hers. thinking simply of her self in the end of the writing. Despite this I feel that I should also keep in account the fact she had not always been so egotistical. Previously, Alina always took in consideration her best friend Mal and the safety of the innocents in the Ravkan kingdom. I believe that if Alina is to continue to be in the state she is currently in she would not deserving of my friendship. If, by chance, Alina were to change to her original ways I believe she would be much more than deserving of my friendship.
After reading I am left questioning several things about the author, the book, and its characters. Some of those things would be:
- Where did Leigh Bardugo (the author) receive her inspiration for the story?
- Does Alina continue down the same path?
- What is the truth behind the Darkling and his minions?
- Is the Darkling the true antagonist of the story or is there another person calling the shots?
- Will Alina find the third amplifier?
- Will Mal forgive Alina for all that she has done to him?
