The Alchemyst: Week of 1/27/14

Pages Read: 0-87

Currently in the book Josh and Sophie, who happen to be twins, have been informed of the fact that everything in their life is not what it seems to be. After being informed of the fact that Josh's boss, Nick Flemings, is truly the legendary and mythical Nicholas Flamel. Not only this but his wife, Perry Flemings, one of the regulars at the caffè, where Sophie Newman works is Perenelle Flamel, the wife of Nicholas Flamel. Along with these shocking revelation, Perry is kidnapped by the antagonist of the story, John Dee. It is then up to Flamel and the Newman twins to save Perry and the Codex, a important book that was stolen by Dee.

If I were to be a character from the book I feel like I would be Scathach (also known as the Warrior Maid, the Shadow, the Daemon Slayer, the King Maker, etc.)  Reasoning being that she is my favorite character from the book. Even thought I have been barely introduced to her. I would probably also like to be her for the reason on my background knowledge on her. I know that Scathach in Celtic mythology helped several people and she seems to be handy with a bow and arrow, which seems pretty cool to me. Scathach also reminds me of Bast or Bastet the goddess of cats and the moon in Egyptian mythology.

  2. First the only flaw I see in your awesome blog was that Josh Newman is blonde. Well, I'm pretty sure. Anyways I also like Scathach, or Scatty, she seems so calm and cool.

    1. For some reason, I myself actually envision Josh as brunette. So, I knew he was a blonde, but I prefer the idea of hime being a brunetter.

  3. I'm glad to see that you seem to be enjoying the book. I noticed that a lot of people seem to be reading the same book. I kind of feel left out now. I also fee like the name, "Nicholas Flamel" sounds very familiar,

    1. Nicholas Flamel is from the Harry Potter books. He is the creator of the Philosopher's Stone, which name is then changed to the Sorcerer's Stone.

    2. People are also reading the book for Battle of the Books.

  4. This book seems to be really famous right now because three other people in our class are reading this book. I liked your drawing of the main character it's better than how I draw. I only draw stick figures with bad circles. I liked how you added a little summary along with your blog in order for me to know more about the book. Thanks for the Recommendation.

  5. When I started reading the first few sentences of the first paragraph, I related it to another book I read called 'Switched'. It has the same idea where her life was all of lie, it wasn't what she thought it was meant to be. I really love how you incorporate the links to have the reader have more knowledge on what they are reading. I can see your reasoning on why you choose to be Scathach as a character and why it is your favorite. Keep up the excellent work Maria!

  7. Maria-
Great blog this week! I really enjoyed it! I love all of the different prompts you included in your blog this week from talking about surprising parts, to a character you would want to along with an exquisite drawing! I also liked how you could give us a description of what was going on without directly telling us! Your descriptions were great! Overall awesome blog this week, and I look forward to reading more of your blogs in the future!
