Opinions & Predictions

I have recently just begun the Stephen King novel, 'Salem's Lot. Stephen King is mostly known for books such as Carrie, The Shining, Cujo, and It. Reason being several of his suspenseful and terrifying novels have been made into movies.

Since beginning the novel, I must be completely honest. I do not understand a single thing, whatsoever. You may think it may the words choice and things such as that but in truth, it is not. King's diction is not at all complicated. It's as if the words were read but they were simply that, words. A plot, in my opinion, has yet to come into play. Above this he uses a rather interesting a questionable format to his chapters, only further adding to my already perplexed mind. I feel that the limited amount that I have read may also be a cause of my confused mind.

At the initial thought of reading a Stephen King book, I was immediately excited. When picking up 'Salem's Lot for the first I was not sure what to expect. I feel that several people appreciated King's shelves of work that my expectations were higher than need be. Despite this, I feel that I must continue with my read as I still do expect much from King. I am not sure what to await and do expect a riveting story.

    1. I am currently still reading or attempting to, it is a bit difficult. After reading a bit more I am understanding a bit more, it's still a work in progress though.

  2. Maria,
I enjoy the honesty of your Blog this week, and believe that more people should show this as others tend to possibly sugarcoat their blogs. I know you say that you are aware that Stephen King is known for many famous books, and those books being made into incredible movies, but have you read any of the books or seen any of the movies? Do you think if you had, that it would effect if you would have read this book? Something that I recommend if you don't understand a book is to read parts of it over and over again until you completely understand it. It may take longer, but it will really help you to better comprehend the Novel in the long run! Though, even though you were confused, I think you were able to write and excellent Blog post on the Novel!
