As of last year, I found a rather immense joy in my writing on the books I have read. The 40 Book Challenge had offered an interesting challenge that I had never experienced before. Therefore, this year I decided I would change the goal so instead of 40 books, it would be 15 Classical Books. So far, I have been able to read the majority of one, The Lord of the Flies. The Lord of the Flies is not only a classic but it is also a banned book, which would continue to my next goal of reading at least ten banned books. I feel that since the month of August, my reading has completely changed. For my first blogs of the year I had decided to write them about, for the majority, young adult books such as, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Harry Potter: The Goblet of Fire, and Siege and Storm. To this moment in time I find myself immersed in more classic pieces, whether it be The Lord of the Flies or Peter Pan.
Another grand change that I have experienced would be my writing format and style. In previous blogs such as Summer Blog, The Perks of Being A Wallflower: 8/2/14, the majority of my writing is simply opinion. My previous blogs were simply mediocre rants that were more likely to be read for entertainment rather than information. Yet now, at the end of the first quarter I find my writing to be much more concentrated on the given prompts. Above that, I have become much more aware of my diction and proofreading than what I had previously been.
A final great change that I have seen through my writing would be my approach on research. Previously, I found myself researching at random for facts that may have been loosely related to that of what I had to research. In comparison to now, I find that my research is much more objective and direct. In exception to my interpretations of the information found, little to no writing is now involved that is not related. Along with this, my citation skills have improved. Not very long ago I had a bit of trouble working on citations, specifically the formatting of my bibliography. Now my bibliography contains a more professional format and is properly organized.
