The book I am currently reading is The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. After reading the book for about for three days, I am halfway through the book. The story is rather emotional, yet the author, John Green, manages to keep a realistic feel to it without it being a sob story. I also believe that this book holds a somewhat raw and accurate view on life. For these purposes I find this book of the utmost interest to others and myself. Other reasons why I believe others should read this are:
-You are interested in finding a book that will toy with your emotions.
-A quick read for a realistic fiction book you need to read for your 40 Book Challenge (Keeping in mind the book is over 300 pages, making it count as two books.)
-You want an emotional story but not a story that is like chick lit or too cheesy.
-You want to read a somewhat relatable love story.
-You enjoy finding and reading challenging words.
-You prefer when authors leave things up to interpretation, and you prefer to come up with your own ideas.
-You often find happy endings boring, or you prefer a story with the characters facing many rough spots in life, with an upsetting ending.
“My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations." Said by Augustus Waters. I found this quote truly inspiring and emotional for the reason that these were some of the final words written by Augustus and I find some own connection between the quote and myself. I feel that when comparing my thoughts and my writing, my writing is the most ill conceived thing in the universe. Being in a state of tears and a 'flowing river of emotions'. Let me rephrase quickly rephrase that last part on my emotions; it was as if my emotions were a dam that had just unexpectedly ruptured apart. These emotions led to the deep thinking of what was life and death truly, and what was it like to know your days were counted. Between this I also thought of the characters themselves as Augustus had put it, “The marks humans leave are too often scars." Meaning that when we leave this earth we don't leave a painless mark in our path, but a deep jagged cut in the hearts of others. The deeper the cut the longer it takes to heal, but even after we heal, we are left with a reminder, that being a scar. Before reading this book I always thought one should simply live in the moment and simply forget everything that seemed to be going wrong. After the, oh so life changing words of John Green, my thoughts completely rotated. I realized that not many people want to let go of what they have and that life should not be perceived as an always-jubilant thing. Then again, life should not be perceived as a ruthless, malevolent, game we are forced to play. I believe that like the truth life is a beautiful and terrible things, and we should be cautious with it.
The Fault In Our Stars, in my opinion could not be a more fitting title. I believe that the title means to say that we as humans are not a problem, nor is a disease that takes over your body leading to your demise, because we are all trying to survive. In my opinion such as Van Houten's in the book that, "never was Shakespeare more wrong than when he had Cassius note, "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars / But in ourselves." I believe that just about everything that happens in our life can all be brought back to the 'fault in our stars.' Meaning that something is wrong with life, not you, me, that stranger you saw across the street, the celebrity on the television, or anybody. We cannot blame the life ending causes that lead to our demise, but life itself. I find myself, since just finishing this book, very few moments ago, still mourning a rather tragic death, so I may just be ranting. But if in a day, week, or possibly months, I find myself still feeling the same I will know that I truly feel even though my previous paragraph on life, that life is a game. As a wise person once said, don't hate the player hate the game. Now I don't mean hate your life, or anybody's life in general, but the principals of life. You may believe I sound like a deranged child and need counseling, but isn't just a bit cruel to have you connect with others create relationships, and then have that all torn away by death. It may not seem like much but small emotions that we feel towards other are our controls on life, and without that other, we spin out of control. We as humans don't want to lose control, and those marvelous stars being life, we want to see those stars with those we truly love. I must admit that I found myself crying at several stages in the book. As a final note I must also ask those who do read this post to look up "The Fault In Our Stars" by Troye Sivan, as this contains a powerful and emotional feel that matches perfectly with the book it was written for. It may take a while for you to decipher the true meaning of the song but once you do understand, like myself you will find yourself at the verge of tears.
I like this post. My mom read this book and said that it was very good. After reading this I want to read this book even more.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like The Fault In Our Stars! I can agree with all the points you made on what makes this a good book. I do enjoy cheesy stories but it is good to have a change for once. This would be the first book I recommend for people like yourself that don't like reading cheesy stories.
